Student Arrival/Day 1

Tomorrow, 120 students from 60 different high schools across New Jersey and beyond will arrive at Stockton University for the launch of Torch Leadership Academy’s 2025 summer program. The free, four-day experience focuses on youth leadership, identity exploration, and real-world community impact.

Students will take part in immersive workshops and activities designed to build self-awareness, deepen empathy, strengthen communication, and inspire long-term service leadership.

“We help students connect their story to their purpose,” said Danes Colarocco, People Director at Torch and a Development Manager with nonprofit Leadership Brainery. “It’s not just about being confident in your voice—it’s about knowing why your voice matters.”

Participants will explore identity and leadership through simulations, goal-setting exercises, social impact games, and small-group reflections. They’ll also engage with mentors and nonprofit partners throughout the program.

New workshops this year focus on helping students better understand their values, communities, and the kind of impact they want to have on the world.

2024 Student Impact Outcomes (Program-Wide Averages):

  • 99% increased understanding of personal leadership style

  • 86% felt better equipped to use their leadership strengths

  • 62% growth in public speaking comfort

  • 53% improvement in self-confidence

  • 38% increase in familiarity with community engagement

  • 32% increase in understanding of climate risks and solutions

“TORCH allowed me to connect with people I never would’ve met otherwise,” said one participant from Keansburg High School. “It made me realize I have a voice—and a responsibility.”

This year’s volunteer team includes 57 individuals who collectively donated over 2,700 hours to ensure the program’s success. The program was free of charge thanks to the generous support of donors and grant making partners such as Atlantic City Electric, the Jon Ben Snow Memorial Trust, WSFS Cares Foundation, Haddon Township Equity Initiative, and many more.
